Fringe Review: Cabaret XXX: Les Femmes Fatales

By Julia Exline - July 21, 2011

Pinky Swear Productions presented Cabaret XXX: Les Femmes Fatales, a quartet of fierce women with voices that ring to your core. Before the performance, we are asked to write down our “best f***ed-over story” on sheets of paper, which are later read throughout the show. While a couple girls walk around giving people temporary tattoos, the other two spot people playing with their phones and walk up, asking, “hey—what kind of phone is that? THE KIND YOU TURN THE F***K OFF!” Loud, rough, and in your face, these women mean business.

During their show, they “sing about how our quest for romantic fulfillment f***ed us over,” with angry-rock that will have you moving in your seats. They also sing covers of men-hating favorites such as “Cell-Block Tango” and “Bad Reputation,” using their own unique lyrics. Although the set was outside in warning-level heat, the place was packed, and people endured the scorching atmosphere to hear these women sing. And they delivered. Well worth the time and the temperature.

Running time: 75 minutes
