Fringe Review: My Name is Pablo Picasso

By Mariya Danilenko - July 11, 2011

My name is Pablo Picasso is a play about a young Picasso and his girlfriend, Fernande, receiving a visit from a fortune teller that reveals information about his future. Poor, frustrated, and completely misunderstood, even by the people closest to him, Picasso was a genius whose perspective on the world was ahead of his time and generation. This unique vision, discouraged during this early pre-success stage of his life, tortured his mind and left him permanently dissatisfied, especially in matters of love. Arden Moscati, as Picasso, and M.P. Bernosky, as the psychic, embody Picasso’s genius, paint and display the emotion in art, and create a bond between the artist and the audience.

Fernande, played by the stunning Julia Albertson, humanizes Picasso; she unmasks his flaws and narrow mindset, and loves him with a heart much bigger than his. Fantastic dialogue, lovable characters, and soul, this show is one of the best out there.

Running time: 75 minutes.
