HAIRSPRAY
Musical Theater Center performs the Broadway musical Hairspray about breaking the color barrier in Baltimore of the 60s, and MTC’s production is all the more effective because this is age appropriate material for the cast. Teens have no trouble portraying teens with realistic flair, and the cast of 40 was further inspired by original Broadway cast member, Tyrick Wiltez Jones, who came down from New York to conduct dance workshops. Directed by Brad Van Grack (of The Capitol Steps), he infused the cast with Baltimore accents, which is part of his vocabulary since he grew up in this area.

This should be every child’s first musical theatre experience, as it lovingly brings to life the popular characters of Dr. Seuss in song and dance. The one hour show features many of our talented youngsters from MTC’s elite performing ensembles, Opening Act and Upbeat Unlimited.
