The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity was Finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama
“The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity follows the life of wrestler Macedonio Guerra, also known as “Mace.” As a lifelong fan, he has followed wrestling only to become a “jobber,” someone who is paid to lose to bigger-name stars in the ring. Mace meets a smooth-talking young Indian man from Brooklyn named Vigneshwar Paduar, or “VP” for short, who Mace wants to team up with because of his ability on the mic. The wrestling execs go for the pair, but pitch them as “terrorists” in the ring. Mace and VP must find a way to push their personas to the limit and find their own voice without being drowned out by the roar of the crowd. Unspoken racism, business, politics, and courage are all woven into this play that leaves it all on the mat.”

    Prepare:
Two Contrasting Monologues, no more than three minutes total for the roles of Mace and VP
For all the roles, please be ready for cold readings from the script, improv and move around and show energy!… this is about wrestling after all!
