The Kennedy Center announced today that its much anticipated production of Pal Joey, scheduled to run June 2-July 1, 2012 in the Eisenhower Theater, will be postponed indefinitely “due to scheduling conflicts.” Replacing it will be First You Dream: The Music of Kander and Ebb, which had its debut at Signature Theatre in 2009.
First You Dream: The Music of Kander and Ebb is a musical revue that “celebrates the songwriting team who brought us Cabaret, Chicago and The Kiss of the Spider Woman.” Each musical in John Kander and Fred Ebb’s legendary five-decade partnership will be included in the review. The production will play the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater June 8th to to July 1, 2012. Casting will be announced at a later date. Casting will be announced at a later date. Single tickets go on sale on March 5, 2012.
The Signature production starred Broadway favorites Heidi Blickenstaff, James Clow, Norm Lewis, Julia Murney, Matthew Scott, and DC area favorite Eleasha Gamble. It was filled with vocal delights by these incredible singers. The show featured 41 songs, several medleys and songs paired together, and included some of Kander and Ebb’s most popular showstoppers, including “Maybe This Time,” and “New York, New York.” I look forward to seeing how the show has evolved, and to the announcement of the cast.
