Celebrate Memorial Day “Bob Hope” style with a re-creation of a USO Show!
As part of the Chesapeake Beach Memorial Day Stars and Stripes Festival, a re-creation of a USO show will be a highlight of the festivities.
In partnership with Twin Beach Players, this nostalgic show will feature Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters, W. C. Fields and a new surprise guest starlet from Hollywood.
The script was created from over 7000 hours of taped interviews by Mr. John Tegler of Wings Publishing and Production Company and host of radio’s Capitol Conversation. This jazz and entertainment aficionado used to be a professional jazz and big band drummer, rubbing elbows with many legends like Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.
Sid Curl, who is playing the role of Bob Hope and is also the President of the Twin Beach Players met up Mr. Tegler in Severna Park, MD, finding out that “Mr. Tegler is show business history. His father was a producer of Broadway shows. He grew up next door to W.C. Fields. This pretty blonde woman would always come over to his house to have lunch or dinner with his mother. This woman’s name was Doris Day.” Later, Tegler and Nat King Cole’s band would play back and forth between the five sets in a Broadway house. Mr. Tegler even took Mr. Cole to the hospital when his daughter, Natalie was born.
Jamie Zemarel of The Capitol Steps fame will be featured as Bing Crosby, Ana Collins, Brittney Collins and Regan Hall as The Andrews Sisters, Tom Wines of Twin Beach Players as W. C. Fields, and Katherine Willham as a new MGM starlet.
Mr. Bob Snider will be providing the musical direction for the evening with a 3-piece band and Ms Gwendolyn Livingston will be providing the musical direction for The Andrew Sisters who will be singing “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh!,” and “Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree.” Bing will be singing “Don’t Fence Me In,” “How High The Moon,” and “I Remember You.”
After the show, the evening will be followed by dancing to The Boys and Me, a Country/Rock band who will provide a skilled mix of Country and light rock with some 50’s sounds. Featured on drums with his Irish tenor vocals is Todd Hall, the magical fingers of Bryant Lithicum on guitar and Molly McDonald will provide gutsy vocals with her wonderful bass playing. This band known throughout the area will provide a fine musical offering.
Running Time: 90 Minutes followed by an evening of dancing.
