Dundalk Community Theatre continues its 42nd season with one of broadways most successful comedies…The 39 Steps. This laugh-a-minute melodrama is adapted from the John Buchan novel and Alfred Hitchcock film. It features four actors playing over one hundred characters while they retell the story in side-splitting fashion. The show runs from February 26th to March 6th. Individual tickets are $23 for adults, $20 for senior adults and $15 for students/DCT Actors/Children 12 and under.
Combining a spy thriller with farcical comedy, the play’s concept calls for the entirety of the 1935 adventure film The 39 Steps, to be performed with a cast of only four actors. The play closely follows the storyline and has been described as when “Hitchcock meets Hilarity.” One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object. In the style of Monty Python, the cast occasionally play multiple characters at once and the script is full of allusions to other Hitchcock films, including “Strangers on a Train”, “Rear Window”, “Psycho”, “Vertigo” and “North by Northwest”.
The Cast: Tatiana Dalton, Charlie Lidard, Patrick Martyn and Toby Hessenauer. Directed by Todd Starkey, and Set/Lighting Design by Marc Smith.
