Housing Authority partners with local nonprofit to premier original musical, “Not My Baby” in Alexandria, VA
Exploring the triumphs and challenges of adoption
Momentum Collective, Inc. (MC, Inc.) in association with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) will be mounting an original musical entitled, “Not My Baby” which explores the triumphs and challenges of adoption.
The production will open Friday, March 17 at the Richard Kauffman Auditorium, 1108 Jefferson St. Alexandria, VA, with 6 shows over two weekends. Friday shows are at 7 p.m. with both a 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. show on Saturdays.
The musical which features 10 original songs, 6 dance numbers and a diverse cast of seasoned performers from around the DC metro area, doubles as a fundraiser to support programming for low-income youth in the city of Alexandria. Written and directed by ARHA staffer and MC, Inc. executive director, Jason Ellis, this is the 6th in a series of socially conscious musicals aimed at increasing discourse around sensitive subject matters. Other partners include the Alexandria Recreation Parks and Cultural Activities Department and Alexandria City Public Schools.
Tickets are available at the door or online at www.notmybaby.bpt.me, and are tax deductible. Proceeds from the production will help provide college scholarships and fund a summer performing arts camp for low-income youth.
On Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. there will be a free preview night for theatre reviewers and media to view the show and engage in a 30-minute talk-back with the cast. Light refreshments will be available. Interested media should contact MC, Inc. for reservations.
