Natalie Dixon
Natalie Dixon is currently playing the role of Mary Lennox in “The Secret Garden” at Maryland Hall, presented by Live Arts Maryland on February 9 and 10, 2018.
Natalie Dixon, 14, attends Bates Middle School in Annapolis, MD, where is a student in the performing arts magnet program, with a focus on dance. She has performed in the past with theater companies such as Charm City Players (“Suessical the Musical,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Mary Poppins,” and “The Music Man”), The Talent Machine Company (multiple holiday shows and High School Musical) and the Moscow Ballet (Nutcracker in 2016 and 2017). One of her favorite roles was when she played Tiny Tim in the “Christmas Carol” at Annapolis High school when she was 11. Natalie has been studying voice with Cyndi Wallman for 4 years. She has studied dance at Stageworkz in Millersville for the past 5 years, taking classes in ballet, pointe, tap, lyrical, jazz and acting. Outside of her theatrical life, Natalie enjoys the beach, long car rides, yoga and her pets.

How is the character, Mary Lennox like you? Different?
Mary and I are similar because we are both kind of shy, and not very outgoing. We are both also pretty curious. We are different because I have a kind of happy side, silly side to me that is always there, even under the shyness, but Mary is much more serious. However, I think we must be pretty much alike – when I told my acting teacher that I’d gotten this part, she said, “of course you did. You ARE Mary Lennox!”
What impresses you most about this production?
I have been a part of a lot of community theatre, but most of it has been children’s theatre. It’s really exciting to see how professional everyone is….how skilled, how talented, how prepared. I am so excited to get to perform with them!
What is your favorite song to sing in the show and why?
I love the song “Wick.” It is more upbeat and fun than the other songs in the show.
When you have a five-minute break during rehearsal, what do you spend that time doing?
Usually listening to the other actors rehearse, going over my lines, or getting a drink of water.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
An actress, either in movies or on Broadway.
