This weekend the Candlelight Concert Society is offering an Intriguing variation of chamber music. The internationally renown Italian Saxophone Quartet will be performing “La Dolce Vita” at the at Howard Community College, Smith Theatre, Horowitz Visual & Performing Arts Center on Sunday, March 31 at 3 PM.
The ISQ will also be performing at the Candlelight Concert Society’s fundraising Gala on Saturday, March 30 at Merriweather Post in Columbia, MD. The Gala includes dinner, an open bar, tango lessons and a mini-concert from the ISQ. The festivities get underway at 6:30 PM.

It is unusual to hear saxophones that are not related to jazz, swing or rock music. These four talented musicians who will be performing their program, “La Dolce Vita,” which includes classical standards by Bach, film music from Fellini and the movie, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” ragtime by Scot Joplin and Piazzola’s tangoes. The group has had raves from critics from both sides of the Atlantic. They have played all over the United States, including New York City and Washington, D.C. In their native Italy, they have done over 500 concerts at some of the most important concert institutions as well as entertaining in France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Japan, Sweden Lebanon, Bermuda and Russia.
The Quartet includes Federico Mondelci, soprano saxophone, Davide Bartelucci, alto saxophone, Pasquale Cesare, tenore saxophone and Michele Paolino, baritone saxophone. It was founded in 1982 by four saxophone soloists and close friends who were interested in performing high quality chamber music. The “Italian Saxophone Quartet” is a group that should not be missed whether you are a saxophone enthusiast, a lover of chamber music or just someone who appreciates fine music.
