For the past 18 years, “Page-to-Stage New Play Festival” at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. has given playwrights and performers an expansive venue to present and workshop new plays. This permits artists a chance to get feedback on their work in order and to refine their productions. It also gives them a chance to network with their theatrical counterparts in our area which encourages collaborative efforts.
This year over 70 D. C. area theatre companies will have three days of free readings and rehearsals at the Kennedy Center over the Labor Day Weekend. The group includes playwrights, librettists and composers. The performances include script in hand and almost fully staged performances.
The festival sounds like a Labor Day Weekend for Theatre Lovers, and it is all free. It’s a great way to see an array of fine theatre without breaking the bank.
Those from Charm City will be pleased to note that the Playwrights Group of Baltimore will have readings of seven 10-minute plays on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm in the Kennedy Center’s Israeli Lounge. Their theme for this year is The Bridge Plays. Participating playwrights from this group include Rosemary Frisino Toohey, Dwight R. B. Cook, Amy Bernstein, John J. Conley, S.J., Kevin Kostic, Rich Espey and Susan Middaugh.
