“The Sweetest Sounds” filled Severna Park High School’s auditorium during their dazzling production of “Cinderella: Enchanted Edition”.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” is given fresh character adaptations and beautiful new songs in the 1997 remake, “The Enchanted Edition”. This familiar story has been told many times in many ways, but with these new aspects, Cinderella’s tale is brought to life again in a refreshing way.
Severna Park’s fantastic production was anchored by an enthusiastic cast and impressive technical aspects. Each costume, spotlight, and ensemble character was uniquely molded to create this show’s spark. It was truly the vibrant atmosphere formed by the students that made this production memorable.
Leslie Robinson, performing as Cinderella, amazed the audience with her warm and powerful voice. Singing each note perfectly, she certainly embodied the Disney princess beloved by all. Nick Ivey, performing as the prince, matched Robinson’s singing with a powerful voice of his own. These two actors played their characters with tangible emotion and warmth.
Rebecca White, Emily Allgair, and Lacey Ordakowski, playing Cinderella’s stepfamily, induced ceaseless laughter with their hilarious deliveries and physicality. Gianna Dicks, playing the dove, flew across the stage and danced incredibly gracefully throughout the performance. Zoe Smith and Joseph Schroeder, playing Queen Constantina and King Maximillian, charmed the audience and sang beautifully. The puppeteers of Cinderella’s animal friends emoted and reacted extremely effectively despite not having any lines in the show.
The technical construction of Severna Park’s production was the highlight of the night. Beautiful costumes including Cinderella’s transforming dress and light-up ballgowns lined the stage and well-crafted props demonstrated great attention to detail. The sets of this show were fantastic and immersive and transitioned seamlessly. Lighting and coloring shaped the atmosphere of the show and added an important level of enchantment.
Overall, Severna Park High School’s production of “Cinderella: Enchanted Edition” was thoroughly amusing and impressive. The energy, attention, and hard work of the cast and crew formed an outstanding show and told a wonderful story.
