A holiday treat is coming Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 7:30 PM to the Smith Theatre at the Horowitz Center of Visual and Performing Arts at Howard Community College. The Calmus Ensemble, direct from Germany,will be performing “Calmus Holiday A Cappella”. They are a distinctive vocal group who are graduates of Leipzig’s renowned St. Thomas Church Choir School. They combine a pure soprano voice with four male voices ranging from countertenor to bass. They have done many prize-winning performances. The group includes Anja Pöche (soprano), Stefan Kahle (countertenor), Tobias Pöche (tenor). Ludwig Böhme, (baritone) and Manuel Helmeke (bass).
The group has won the International Robert Schumann Choral Competition and Germany’s national a cappella contest.

They will be performing some seasonal songs featuring holiday music from all over the globe which includes carols from England, Germany and even one from Puerto Rico.
On the program are some 14th Century music, 16th Century English music, 19th Century traditional German music, and traditional Canadian music as well as music from composers including Bach, Tomas Tallis, Jacobus Gallus, Hugo Distler, John Tavener, and Jean De Brébeuf – and that is all before Intermission.
After Intermission they will be singing both Christmas and Chanukah songs from all over the world including “Maos tsur,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “O Tannenbaum.”

Candlelight proudly continues its “One Buy One” program, whereby each paying adult may receive a complimentary ticket for one child (ages 9-17). Group tickets (minimum 10) are available one week in advance for $30 each. The concert will be held in the Smith Theatre of the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center on the campus of Howard Community College.
