The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) is pleased to announce the first concert of their 2020-2021 40th Anniversary Season. The season will open with a virtual cabaret entitled Losing My Mind: A Celebration of Sondheim, in honor of the 90th birthday of Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. The concert will stream online on Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 PM ET. The event is free to everyone, but registration is required. Patrons can register for the event by visiting the GMCW website at gmcw.org.
Join GMCW as they pay tribute to Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim for his 90th birthday with over 20 soloists from the Chorus taking on song selections from his many Broadway musicals, brought to you in your home! Songs include “Losing My Mind,” “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “Marry Me A Little,” “Somewhere,” “Being Alive,” “More,” and “(Not) Getting Married Today.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the landscape for all performing arts groups. We cannot gather in person to perform as we would normally do. But GMCW remains committed to connecting with its audiences, as often as possible, bearing in mind that everyone’s safety is of upmost importance. For its 2020-2021 Season, GMCW will continue to raise their voice by bringing you new musical experiences and virtual events.
The program will be directed by artistic director Thea Kano, with musical accompaniment from Alex Tang and Jeff Hamlin.
