It may be the dead of winter but you can banish the winter blues with arts and culture! The Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion continue to stream live cultural arts programming that you can participate in from the safety of your own home. Discover your inner artist and join an arts history or drawing and painting class. Recently engaged? We have a series of FREE virtual videos that will be posted weekly by the “I Do Crew”. Celebrate the achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement with the moving drama “The Mountaintop”. Or celebrate Valentine’s Day with the ones you love with a concert of romantic Romani music. And much more! Gallery viewings at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park during normal business hours. Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion offer gallery viewing by appointment only.

Only one virtual performance ticket purchase is required per household, so one or more persons may view the program. Once registered, patrons will receive an internet link and password unique to them. Access credentials for online programs are emailed the day of the ticketed event. Tickets must be purchased 30 minutes prior to event start time. Programs are best viewed on a personal computer or tablet. Instructions are also available to cast the program on to a Smart TV.
COVID-19 Safety Information
Please note that the City follows state and county safety, social distancing, and face mark requirements. In order to be clearly understood by all listeners and viewers during the presentation, instructors and performers are not required to wear masks during the actual live stream or virtual program presentation, as long as all other persons involved in the presentation wear masks and all other safety and social distancing rules are observed. All persons, including instructors and performers, must otherwise wear masks while they are in City facilities.

OAA returned to the City galleries, with 26 members of this artist group exhibiting a variety of subject matters and genres in their artwork. The exhibit was juried by Mary Proenza. Viewing during open hours or by appointment, masks required.
Art League of Germantown Annual Juried Exhibition
January 22 – March 28 • Kentlands Mansion/Arts Barn
A favorite annual juried exhibition by the members of ALOG. The work will include a variety of mediums and will be on exhibit in both the Kentlands Mansion and Arts Barn galleries. Viewing by appointment, masks required.
In Concert: Sunday Music Salon: Romantic Romani Music

From fiery Andalusian dances and the sensual songs of Russian Tziganes, to street theatre music from the French Manouches and the wildly racing Hungarian Czardes, the fearless, free-flowing music of the Romani is irresistible. Tanya Anisimova, cello and voice, with guest artist, share an exquisite medley of songs and dances created or inspired by the Romani.
This is the first concert in a two-part Classical music mini-series. This series is designed to provide an inspirational and creative sanctuary, encouraging great music and lively discussion. Tanya Anisimova, curator.

A gripping re-imagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people. Recommended for ages 14 and older.

The Young Artist Award Competition and Concert program is an opportunity for musicians ages 12 to 18 to experience a juried competition in a supportive setting, with the winners performing in concert. Participants compete in various instrumental categories. The jurors, all music professionals, provide individualized feedback, letting the young artists know what they have done well and how certain aspects of their performances might be improved.

About the Arts Barn: Housed in a renovated stable once belonging to the Tschiffely family estate (circa 1900), the Arts Barn contains an auditorium for concerts, live theatre, and film screenings. The stable’s stalls and loft were converted into classrooms, a box office, an art gallery, artist-in-residence studios, and a retail space for local artists. The Arts Barn along with the Kentlands Mansion create an arts campus known as Arts on the Green. It is located at 311 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg, MD.
About the Kentlands Mansion: Also owned by the Tschiffely family, the elegant Kentlands Mansion is an ideal venue for wedding ceremonies, receptions, social functions and business meetings. The Mansion hosts a wide range of quality theater, music and art programs. It is located at 320 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg, MD.
