Join Faction of Fools Theatre Company, DC’s Commedia dell’Arte theatre company, on Thursday, February 25th for an all day virtual soirée celebrating International Commedia dell’Arte Day! On February 25th, 1545, Ser Maphio’s troupe signed a letter of incorporation in Padua, making them the first actors to register their company as a business. On this day, the world celebrates the birth of professional Commedia and professional theatre.
Commedia is an old style, yet laser focused on the present. This Commedia dell’Arte Day, the Fools forge into the world of TikTok, a video-sharing social media platform. These short video snippets are intended to seize the current social zeitgeist and explore how our stock Commedia characters traverse society’s current trends while simultaneously educating our audience on the style of Commedia. All newly created TikTok videos will also be shared on our website and existing social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Then at 8 pm on February 25th via Zoom, in partnership with George Washington University, join us for a reading of suff*rage. Writtenby Lauren Bone Noble, suff*rage is a bloody, Brechtian, feminist, Commedia revenge fantasy surrounding the Seneca Fall Convention. Directed by Faction’s Co-Artistic Director Francesca Chilcote and starring students of GWU’s Corcoran School of the Arts and Design.
