As the evening’s guide to the wonders of the human mind, Drama Desk nominee, Vinny DePonto enacts seamless transitions between laugh-out-loud humor and moments of raw emotional vulnerability. As teacher, counselor, and comic, DePonto entertains while gently promoting the values of curiosity, self-acceptance, and an embrace of our shared humanity.
Directed by Andrew Neisler, “Mindplay” was created and performed by Vinny DePonto and co-written with Josh Koenigsberg. It premiered at Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse in November 2022. The set designed by Sibyl Wickersheimer wields its own magic, even occasionally extending its reach beyond the footlights. Lighting design by Pablo Santiago plays a crucial role in guiding the action, sparking humor, and sustaining suspense.
“Mindplay” provides an enjoyable and thought-provoking evening that will have you pondering the mysteries of the mind long after “Vanishing Vinny” bids you farewell.
