The board of directors and staff of DC Theater Arts are saddened to announce that Nicole Hertvik will be stepping down as editor-in-chief and publisher of DC Theater Arts on December 31, 2024. They are working to find a way for the site to continue past that date.
DC Theater Arts is Washington, D.C.’s only nonprofit media outlet dedicated to comprehensive coverage of the theater community. Last year, they published more than 700 reviews, interviews, and news stories, many of them focused on the region’s smaller theaters. DCTA was founded by Joel Markowitz in 2012. Since his death from ALS in 2017, Nicole Hertvik has been the editor-in-chief and publisher. In 2022, she led the organization to re-incorporate as a not-for-profit organization. In 2023, Washington City Paper voters named DCTA the DC region’s Best Arts Nonprofit and their coverage of the COVID epidemic’s impact on the local theater community was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists in the category of outstanding online beat reporting.
“It has been a joy and privilege to run DCTA for the past seven years,” says Nicole Hertvik.
