Kensington, MD ( May 6, 2025) — The British Players are proud to announce the winners of the 2024–2025 Ruby Griffith Awards, honoring excellence in community theater throughout the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia region.
This year’s awards highlight exceptional performances in both musicals and plays, recognizing the dedication, creativity, and talent of local theater companies.
The highest honor, the award for All Round Production Excellence, was presented to The Colonial Players of Annapolis for their outstanding production of Alabama Story.

The continued success of the Ruby Griffith Awards is thanks in large part to Caroline Gelb, who took over as organizer in July 2019. Shortly after stepping into the role, the COVID-19 pandemic struck in early 2020, bringing live theater to a halt. Undeterred, Caroline arranged a virtual awards show to keep the tradition alive. With most theaters dark through 2020 and 2021, the awards returned as in-person events beginning in early 2022.
Since then, the Ruby Griffith Awards have held three successful seasons, and the 2025–2026 run is now officially underway. The awards now follow a seasonal calendar running from April 1 through March 31, better aligning with the regional theater schedule.
The British Players congratulate all the winners and participants for their hard work and continued contribution to the region’s vibrant theater landscape. The Ruby Griffith Awards remain committed to encouraging theatrical excellence and celebrating the unique talents of our local productions.
