    Part-time (.60 FTE), Temporary, Exempt (salaried)

    Sandy Spring Friends School seeks a long-term substitute to join our Performing Arts department as a Technical Director. This position begins in March 2019 and ends mid-June 2019. The primary responsibilities include teaching one stagecraft class, scenic and technical director for the Upper School Musical, managing all technical and safety aspects of the theater for day activities and evening events for all school divisions, as well as outside groups who rent the theater. The substitute will be a dedicated professional who understands the demands of teaching, developing assessments, completing grading, and performing all basic administrative duties (ex. maintain attendance records, accurate gradebook, interim writing) as well as running the scenic and technical support of a busy performing arts center.

    The candidate must have strong interpersonal communications skills and solid technology skills for use in instructional and professional tasks. Knowledge of Quaker history and education is desirable, but not required. For all positions, SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view

    At times, the substitute will be required to be on duty after regular school hours and on weekends beyond the normal school day. Depending on experience, additional duties may include overseeing the maintenance requests as well as coordinating the use and demand of four busy performance spaces.

    Primary duties include teaching one section of stagecraft class (9th-12th graders); designing and building the set and props for the Upper School Musical; managing the lights, sound, and all technical aspects for the Upper School Musical, as well as for school evening and day events for all divisions (upper school, middle school and lower school); and including outside rental groups. Faculty and departmental meetings held after school are mandatory. (Wednesdays from 2:45-4:30)

    Qualifications Include: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Theater Design and Technology or a closely related field (advanced degree preferred). The candidate must have strong interpersonal communications skills and solid technology skills for use in instructional and professional tasks. Knowledge of Quaker history and education is desirable, but not required.
