Abracadabra! It’s no illusion that the audience was mesmerized with the magic of Randy Shine and Francis Menotti! How to Write a Magic Show takes the audience behind the curtain as Shine and Menotti act as though they are both planning and rehearsing for a future magic show. Standard magic tricks such as the “Egg in Bag” and “Cups and Balls” are executed with their laid-back style. Randy Shine illuminated the stage with his South African trick which consisted of a lit candle on top of a yellow handkerchief on a table. What happened next when he brought up an audience participant was astounding! Without giving away the illusion, I will say that the audience was almost hypnotized as Shine entrancingly said, “I am because you are. You are because I am. My pain is your pain. Your pain is my pain.”
Menotti did a good job at adding comedy to the routines- everything from having a call on his cell phone from his mother to the ‘poultry geist’ that was in the egg bag! The ‘Eggcellent’ standard magic tricks were fun – but the show sometimes lost its “magic” due to the overly laid-back style of both magicians, reducing the effect of suspense and surprise that is so critical to magic.
Still, if you want to make your troubles disappear, How to Write a Magic Show fits the bill! Poof! Your bills are gone!
