Southern, sassy, and 75, Ellouise Schoettler is a storyteller who uses her passion for genealogy to write and present her true one-woman show about a man, called My Diamond Jubliee…Finding Gus. Ellouise never met her grandfather Gus except on trips that she would take to the “marble garden” at Elmwood Cemetery. Wanting more than just a marble memory, Ellouise set out on a quest to ‘find Gus.’ Perhaps her discovery that her Grandfather was a sports hero in 1905 – will stir audiences into wanting to know more about the forgotten heroes in their own family.
The simple, yet appropriate “living room” style set consists of a table covered in a black cloth with one portrait of her grandfather and her grandmother. To keep track of all the family members mentioned in the story, a helpful hint is to read the program before the show that lists the names of the family and their association.
As she sits on her stool, the audience is touched with Ellouise’s poignant delivery and her saying, “We never had any money, but we had family and we were happy.” You too will be happy if you see her one-woman show because “stories are the heart of the family. Without them how can we know who we are?”
