That’s What She Sang, written and directed by Patrick Doneghy, showcases musical theatre songs traditionally sung by women in the setting of a Gay Men’s support group – Gay Men Meeting in Earnest (GMMIE). The story focuses on these men meeting and talking about their home issues, love lives, and the Gay community. All of the actors had lovely voices: Darius Tyrus Epps, David Moretti, Ethan Slater, Keith Miller, and Malcolm Lee, but I especially enjoyed Christopher Gillespie’s interpretation of “Whatever Lola Wants” (sung to his dog Lola) from Damn Yankees, and the ensemble performance of “I’m a Woman” from Smokey Joe’s Café.
Music Director John-Michael d’Haviland, beautifully accompanied the cast on the piano. That’s What She Sang was light and bouncy, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Running time: 70 minutes.
